How the explorer was built

Methodology & sources.

How the 93-career dataset was researched, classified, and limited—including salary, growth, remote-work, and degree-path caveats.

Scope

The dataset was researched in May 2024 as a broad discovery tool for occupations and independent services that can be performed remotely in at least some settings. Inclusion does not mean every vacancy is remote, available in every country, or open to applicants without a degree.

Source families

The original research compared several kinds of sources rather than treating one website as definitive:

The displayed ranges are editorial estimates synthesized during that research. They are not live wage feeds and are not presented as a guaranteed starting salary.

How the filters work

Each career is tagged across six independent dimensions:

Barrier-to-entry definitions

Review cycle and corrections

The site structure and methodology were reviewed August 6, 2026. The underlying career research remains dated May 2024 until a new data review is completed. Corrections can be sent to hello@youdontneedadegree.com with a page URL and supporting evidence.
